Hi Ron, Blaze et al,

I'm still working on fixing the translation problems I have encountered. I've found a lot more. :(

But for now, the org.debian.apt.policy file has the following Action.

Code: [Select]
<action id="org.debian.apt.clean">

Remove downloaded package files

<message>To clean downloaded package files, you need to authenticate.</message>
The Description says Remove and the Message says Clean. Shouldn't they be the same and what is Clean supposed to mean anyway if that is the correct expression to be used or should the Action really have been named as <action id="org.debian.apt.remove">?

Here's another one from the org.freedesktop.consolekit.policy file.

Code: [Select]
<action id="org.freedesktop.consolekit.system.stop">

Stop the system

<message>System policy prevents stopping the system</message>
What does "stopping the system" mean exactly with regards to ConsoleKit?

Thanks, Michael.

Linux and desktops / Desktop Menu: Recent Documents / Recent Applications?
« on: November 08, 2014, 04:18:20 AM »
Hi Biff, Blaze et al,

In the MATÉ Desktop Environment there is a Recent Documents item for the Places menu.

Is it possible to also have a Recent Applications item for the Applications menu?

With regards to LXDE, according to the following page it is possible to add Sub-menus for Recent Files and Devices.

http://lxlinux.com/openbox.html

Could the Recent Files script be modified to create a Sub-menu for Recent Applications?

Thanks, Michael.

Hey that sounds cool and interesting. Will there be an unofficial leak of the test results?

+1

And don't forget UEFI for my Laptop please. ;)

Solved then ;)

Well, I'm hoping so. ;)

Still don't know if this is the most appropriate method though.

Found some ideas :) or just purge bluetooth ;D

http://linuxg.net/how-to-disable-bluetooth-at-startup-5-practical-methods/

Hi Blaze,

I had seen that page already.

So, I decided to try changing the Permissions for Execution to Nobody and that appears to have done the trick.

It requires less User input to manage.

The Motherboard, of the old PC, does not have any Bluetooth hardware on it. However, I suppose it could be possible to connect a USB device with Bluetooth capabilities and then it would be quick to reverse the Permissions when required.

Hasta pronto, Michael.

wattOS R8 / [Solved] - Best Way to Prevent Bluetooth from Starting?

Hi Biff, Blaze et al,

What's the best way to prevent Bluetooth from starting?

Should I just alter the Execution permissions for /etc/init.d/bluetooth so that Nobody can execute it?

Thanks, Michael.

Solved
Hi Biff et al,

Of all the files that are installed in /usr/share/polkit-1/actions, when wattOS R8 LXDE 32-bit is installed, only the files org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.policy and org.opensuse.cupspkhelper.mechanism.policy come anywhere close to providing an adequate and consistently applied range of translations.

I can provide Spanish translations where necessary.

Am I correct in surmising that this should be the responsibility of the people who maintain each package?

Thanks, Michael.

wattOS R8 / Re: Synaptic - Software Origins - Updates Tab - Ubuntu?
« on: October 24, 2014, 08:27:46 PM »
I understood the problem that cuscotravelservices spoke.
And I reply it when this "not problem".

This is in this condition with Debian wheezy package,
It is displayed in Debian and other distributions.
It is necessary to refer to project of Synatpic or Debian if you want to improve this.

Well, as per this topic (Reliable Free VPN Service?) unfortunately, I am not able to register an account on the Debian forums because they use IP Address Blocking services which I feel is the lazy approach to managing SPAM problems.

Perhaps you could raise the issue with them?

When I see Ubuntu mentioned by a package that is being used in a distribution based on Debian, one has to wonder if it is appropriate to be using the software-properties-gtk package especially when it has been poorly maintained with regards to the Language Translation files (.po files)?

Removing the software-properties-gtk package allows Synaptic's own basic interface for the management of repostiories which is translated correctly.

So, if the software-properties-gtk package is the overall best solution for the management of repositories I can recreate the Portable Object Template file for Language Translation and I can correct the problems for the Spanish translation which is something I am currently working on. I could also probably correct the interface to remove the reference to Ubuntu for my own purposes but I would like some feedback from Biff as to whether this would be worthwhile to include in future wattOS distributions.

Thanks, Michael.

wattOS R8 / Synaptic - Software Origins - Updates Tab - Ubuntu?
« on: October 24, 2014, 02:18:43 AM »
Hi Biff et al,

I'm still working on rectifying the the problem with poorly maintained .po Language Translation files.

On the Updates tab of the Software Origins (package: software-properties-gtk) dialogue window for Synaptic, there is an option for "Notify me of a new Ubuntu version".

Why would you want to be notified of a new Ubuntu version when you are using a Debian based distro?

Thanks, Michael

Hi Biff et al,

Can anyone recommend a PO (Translation File) Editor that allows you to edit both the Header and Original Messages and correctly displays the text of the Original Message including formatting markup (e.g. )?

Gtranslator allows editing of the Header but I can't edit the Original Messages.

PoEdit allows editing of the Original Messages but isn't displaying the markup and doesn't have an interface for editing the Header.

Please provide the version number if you are absolutely sure of an application that will allow the above.

Thanks, Michael.

Lots of ways to get around this...one easy way is Tor.

I would use the Tor browser and see how that treats you :)

Already tried it and Tor is Blacklisted also Biff. >:(

However, I think I have solved the translation problems for one of the packages and hopefully the same technique can be applied to the others.

Hasta luego, Michael.

Stumbled upon this, maybe of interest to you. It is for Ubuntu, but who knows if it might shed some light on your problem.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Locale

The problem stems from poorly maintained packages it appears.

I sent an email to Michael Vogt, the maintainer for Synaptic, 2 days ago but I have not received a reply.

The problems I observed with Synaptic were reported on the 1/4/2012 (April Fool's day, but it's not a joke) which you can see on the following page. That was over 2 years ago and nothing has been done about it which is pretty damn poor.

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=666872

I have been in communicaton with Alejandro who mentioned that most of the minor desktops have translation issues. He recommended using XFCE as it has very good translations.

At the very least, it appears that the .po, and hence .mo, files need to be rebuilt.

Otherwise the applications need to be modified to allow updated .po and .mo, files need to be built. This is what I would like to do but I need some pointers to get me started.

For example, I think the lxpolkit.po file needs to include entries such as follows. Otherwise, polkit-gnome-1.po may need an update (http://forum.lxde.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=36823).

msgid "Authentication is required to run the %s."
msgstr "Se requiere autenticación para ejecutar el %s."

%s is a String Parameter placeholder for passing the name of the application that requires the administrative password before it will allow a User to interact with it.

When I click on the Menu item to open Synaptic, an Authentication window is opened, requesting a password, in which all the text is Spanish except the prompt text which is "Authentication is required to run the Synaptic Package Manager".

The command line for starting synaptic is synaptic-pkexec. Alejandro suggested using "gksu synaptic" instead which uses a different dialogue window which displays a text entry field for the Administrative password but does not display the current User as does the dialogue window for synaptic-pkexec (I think that pkexec is an abbreviation for Policy Kit Execution). The dialogue window, opend by gksu, is properly translated.

Regarding the dialogue window for configuring the Repositories, Alejandro suggested to deinstall the software-properties-gtk package so that Synaptic used its own Repositories interface which does not appear to have any translation issues.

This leads me to ask why was the software-properties-gtk package included in wattOS? Does it have advantages over the standard Repositories interface?

Last night, I also discovered that the Openbox Configuration Administrator window suffers from the same problems. Very disappointing.

So, we have 3 or 4 packages that need updating - Update Manager, Synaptic, pkexec (lxpolkit) and Openbox Configuration Administrator.

Hasta luego, Michael.

Sorry for being a bit off-topic, but I really do not have a clue about any VPN service. Perhaps Google knows. But at the least I learned about Spamhaus. ;)

If you can register me on Debian, let me know by Private Message as it seems to be the only way to get around this.

The IP address provided by my Internet Service Provider is a shared IP address and has been black listed.

I want to post the same topics regarding the mixture of languages I am seeing on some of the applications. Perhaps the source of the problem is upstream with Debian.

Thanks, Michael.
