How to install OpenOffice?

I wanted to install OpenOffice using package here http://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html but it contains 40+ packages not one as I expected.

I am not sure which one should I install first, next.. or maybe there is any other way to install them all?

it's quite easy but be ready to use terminal. moreover assume you haven't install libre office before.

of course firstly you should download deb packages for your system (32 vs 64). and for your language (I'm installing English version because not always translations are properly done). different dictionaries are installed as ad-ons (for LO - a little different).
after installing all files and integration package the unofficial repository /etc/apt/sources.list.d/apacheoo.list can be added

If it was "OpenOffice.org" to have used conventionally, it is old application.
Most of Linux distribution choose "LibreOffice" as this succession now.
We can easily install LibreOffice from Synaptic and apt. The package name is libreoffice:

What is an advantage of LibreOffice over OpenOffice?

Some products come and go not because they are worse but because they do.. developers come and go.. products rise and fall..

OO has recently been overtaken by Apache Software Foundation and has changed a lot since then, being more compatible with MS Office. I do not want to stick to OO against LO but to move I have to have solid reasons.

To be specific, my main concern is MS Office compatibility.

I'm mostly using LO in every distro, where it's out of the box. but in other cases I install OO. it' s smaller (half of number of packages) and more responsive. some new functions are first introduced in OO (sidebar for example). however recently I've noticed two important (from my point of view) problems editing documents on both offices. in same cases LO and OO give  different layouts (footer functionality is different - in OO there is no unique footer for the first page). moreover OO produces bigger pdf files (I do not know if it's general rule because numbers of uses is limited to a few produced files).

firstly, OO is not old application. the above procedure installs ver. 4.1.1. secondly, it's not so easy to install brand new LO version. your command installs LO 3.5. use rather backports repository (-t option the name of repository must be added to your suggested command).

I specify it with "OpenOffice.org" here and please be careful about "Apache OpenOffice" not being had by it.
(So, I specify it with "OpenOffice.org" and not "OpenOffice")
I feel the possibility that teedee demands use of "OpenOffice.org" (not "Apache OpenOffice") to the last and do it in such a sentence.

It is right in just what everybody is listed that Apache OpenOffice is maintained now.
I am sorry that it produces misunderstanding.

You don't think I insisted on using old OpenOffice release instead of Apache OpenOffice, do you?

AOO is not only successor of OO but has been taken over by AOO. It is still maintained on the same website, in the same shape and form. There is no difference and even application itself uses OpenOffice name almost everywhere, not Apache OpenOffice.

What you said sounds like you would say, that Youtube is no longer Youtube but there is that old one and the new one owned by Google accidentally still with the same look and feel and the same website.

I understand, that using LO is natural choice, when you have it included in distribution. This is not the case in wattOS.

if using AOO fonts-liberation package can be installed to have exactly the same fonts both in AOO and LO
