Okay....so I think I didn't fully explore a wonderful suggestion from Blaze about the Keybindings.  Since my last post, I did a LiveCD with Lubuntu and found that I was incorrect is my assessment that it wasn't happening in Lubuntu.  What happens in Lubuntu is that the same keystrokes automatically take a screen shot and save it in the home folder.  So, without realizing it, it does happen in Lubuntu (and I had multiple .png files there to reinforce how inaccurate I was in my previous assessment!).

I then decided to LiveCD Xubuntu, which has a Keyboard Shortcut interface.  After some trial and error, I discovered that my keyboard translates NumLock-arrow and NumLock-Del combo into Print Screen.  So, as Blaze previously suggested, if I modify they KeyBindings, I am thinking I will be fine.  I can't test this right now as I am currently not able to log-in to that computer (another problem Blaze is assisting me with....).  But I am pretty confident this will resolve it.

Thanks everyone!

I am making progress!  After a couple more reboots, I was able to run the dpkg and fix the multi-arch situation.  However, I still can't boot.  I then ran dpkg again and it looks clear.  I am now running journactl and it gets the following errors:

  • kernal:[drm:radeon_init [radeon]]  *ERROR* No UMS support in radeon module!
  • kernal: blk_update_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
  • kernal: ERROR @wl_clfg80211_detach : NULL ndev-> ieee80211ptr, unable to deref wil
  • NetworkMnager[834]:nm_device-get-device-type: assertion 'NM_IS_Device (self)' failedl
  • systemd-hostnamed{846}:Failed to run event loop: Transport endpoint is not connected

Hey Blaze -

when I do the nano /var/log/boot.log, the first FAILED I see is with Failed to start Show Plymouth Boot Screen.  See 'systemctl status plymouth-start.service' for details.  Then I get another line of that.  Then everything is OK until the end.  The end says Starting Terminate Plymouth Boot Screen......Starting Hold until boot process finishes up......

I will go try to figure out the journalctl command now...

Hey Blaze -

yes, messy....but fun!  I had installed a bunch of packages to try to get cups installed.  It is saying that the multiarch is an issue, but cant get connected to fix that.  Do you think resolving that would help?

I am pretty sure I tried the first option...that is log in like usual, right?  If so, I got a black screen.

Hi Cheiron -

right now, I can't login.  Just the GRUB choices.  If I chose the WattOS, I get a black screen.  If I choose Recovery, I have other choices, but don't have much experience with Recovery.  The details of what I have tried and the result are above.

Hi Cheiron - by "drop-down menu" do you mean the GRUB recovery choices?

Hey Cheiron - thanks for checking this out.  I didn't copy and paste as I was typing on a different computer than where the problem is.  So....it was a typo.

Any thoughts?

Really would rather not do an install.  Any thoughts or should I take this to the Ubuntu forum as it is now off-topic?

Hey leenie and blaze -

I did a lot of work last night installing dependencies and got the printer to work.  In hind-sight, I don't think I needed to install as much as I did, but will test that another time.  Here is my dilemma - I turned on the computer and can't login.  I am not hugely surprised as I figured I would probably muck something up with all of that package installation.  When I go to Recovery in Grub, I chose DPKG to check broken dependencies and found that it wants to remove multiarch-support:i386 and install multiarch-support.  When I approve for it to go ahead, it says "Could not download the upgrades.  The upgrade has aborted."  Then it talks about checking the internet connection (which was fine last night) or installation media.  "Failed to fetch htt'://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/ main/g/glibc/multiarch-support_2.23-0ubuntu3.amd64.deb.  Temporary failure resolving 'us.archive.ubuntu.com'.

I realize this is beyond the original question, but you both seem knowledgeable and it didn't seem right to start another thread here.

Hey Blaze - I will check it out, but I am not hopeful as I am not having the issue with other distros.....

Thanks Blaze.

This morning I woke up thinking about Leenie's response.  I have Cups installed, but not 386 Cups.  I will do some research on that and see if that might have these other files.....

Hey Blaze - looks like I should put you on speed dial! :)

Thanks for the idea....I looked at that file and looked for screenshot and lock.  Lock wasn't mentioned at all.  Screenshot was mentioned only in reference to Print Screen.  Is there something else I should be looking for?

Hi leenie and blaze and thanks for responding!

Leenie - yes, CUPS is installed.

Blaze - I had seen that post in the first link and had attempt to install libcupsimage2 (386), but I received an error message in GDebi and gave up.  So, tonight, I triied it with dpkg in Terminal, and received messages that it was not able to be installed because of dependencies with libcups2 and libcupsfilters.  When i tried to install libcups2, I get 4 dependencies....libavahi client 3 and common3, libgnutls30, and libgssapi-krb-2.  I have a feeling this will keep going on and was wondering if you had any ideas

Hi Cheiron!  Thanks for the reply.

When I go to Preferences (I don't see System in Watt 10....just System Tools), I get Keyboard and Mouse and Keyboard Layout isn't an option.  How do I get to where you are referring?

Also, I did some testing with some other distros with LiveCD and didn't have the problem (even with Lubuntu), but did with WattOS installed and Live CD for 64 and 32.

wattOS R10 / Dell 720 Printer (SOLVED)
« on: January 12, 2017, 06:54:18 PM »
Hi - I am trying to install a Dell 720 printer in R10 on a 64 bit PC..  I have followed the directions I have found elsewhere on the web, which state to install libstdc++5 for 64 and 32 and the lexmark z600 driver.  I was able to install this on Zorin 12.04 on a 32 bit PC.  What happens now is I install it succesfully, but when I try to print, it gives a message of "stopped".

Any suggestions?
