wattOS R8 / ROOT password needed for update manager?
« on: August 05, 2014, 03:53:07 AM »
I am a noob on this new version of WattOS.  Previously installed OS was R7; 8months
I have just finished installing R8, LXDE;  When I attempted to check for updates, something unexpected occurred.  I was prompted for the Root Password.  I of course do not know the password for this default user.
1) is there a way around authentication as "Root?"
2) is there a one-time use Root password?
3) does the root password have to be changed, and if so, will "sudo passwd root" work when logged in as another user?

System = Gateway P5; Intel VC-820; PIII 930MHz in slot 1; 512MB RDRAM

After posting my question here, I decided to look again through the previous posts and then I found a post that wasn't returned in search results.  The poster answering a similar question was Cheiron, and here is what was said:

WattOS on livecd has sudo as default... when you install WattOS R8 ... it reverts to su .. you need to open terminal and type gksu-properties and then change su back to sudo and you should be good to go

I tried this, and it worked to solve my issue of not being able to run updater.
