I have seen some forum strangeness here, but cleared up when I dropped my addons to stop blocking (ublock and privacy badger) or use a new private window with those off.  Something likely related to cookies/cache, etc. Probably wont spend a bunch of time on it here unfortunately.

Yes, bookworm is being actively looked at, and we may even beta for some folks, but nothing official just yet. I am using it as a daily driver currently so iron out any strangeness :) - My newer hardware is much happier with the 6.x kernel also.

Beta Testing / Beta Sign up 2.0 - winter 2022
« on: November 03, 2022, 08:55:50 PM »
Ok folks, details to follow soon, but after a long hiatus, we are close to releasing a new wattOS finally. Several core members of the team have been testing for a couple of weeks, and we are ready to have others test out privately.

Please email beta@planetwatt.com to express your interest.

Only requirement is that you have a forum account, and do not share the beta ISO elsewhere.

More screens, info and web site updates to come in the next few days!

tks...biff

Hi folks,

Good news - beta testing is coming. There will be a separate message being sent out in the next couple days to the folks who have been selected for the first round of beta testing and some resources and guidelines. The general dates are as follows.

Beta 1 - based on 20.10 - should be ready for download and private link sent 3-21
Beta 2 - based on the beta 21.04 - should be ready for dowload and private link sent 4-11 (since the upstream should be beta final around 4-1/4-2)
Ubuntu 21.04 should be released 4-22 if things go as planned
We will target a release roughly 2 weeks after that date (depending on any show stopping bugs discovered in beta 2).

tks

Hi there - updated the video to link to the home page as suggested.

Leenie - of course you can do what you like with the video. I do plan on doing the same at the official wattOS Facebook page either tonight or tomorrow to update the info on it as well.

If you want to sign up to beta test the new wattOS R12 - please send an email to beta@planetwatt.com - with your name, forum name, and preferred email for communications.

Once the beta release date is announced in the next couple weeks we will list the relevant topic areas here, and list of beta testers forum names here. You must have a forum account name (which we will share here) and valid email address (which we will not share).

News and Announcements / wattOS Returns!
« on: February 04, 2021, 07:26:16 AM »
Greetings all,

I am pleased to announce that wattOS is intending to return with a new release. There will be details posted shortly along with a brief video :) - watch social media and here for details as they emerge over the next week, and a few details as well as opportunity to join in on the beta of the new release...

This is a bit of a "soft" reopening for the moment to get things in order, but we will really open up things in the next week with more of the juicy details you want to know.

Tell your friends, dig out your old computers to bring them back to life for wattOS!

I hear people are looking for me  ;D

Apologies folks. I know things seem dead. I would explain what I am doing, but it would be complicated. Lets just say I have responsibilities that cross 3 time zones and thousands of people and am fighting the infosec stuff every day. :)

I've actually been thinking about it and think it might be an opportunity to "re-tool" and maybe get creative and collab on the release.

So with that I will open this question....What are the things that are most relevant to you today for an OS? What distro is your jam? What window manager, biggest pains, etc. I still love minimalism, and run i3 window manager and build things by scratch.

But what really matters now in 2019? Fire away and give me some thoughts? (also probably going to just blow the whole web site up and start fresh, but keep an archive...(both the last version and this one, but again..being a web master is about 30th on the list right now)...so steady state there...
