This is why i am on the mod team lmao .. i have a knack of finding stuff hehehe

I used to use midori when it was running .. i have since stopped using it as it was discontinued and then relaunched as Astian because they dropped the WebKitGTK and moved to Electron which is Chromium based

Firstly.. R10 is done and dusted.. that is no longer supported as an outdated release. We can still help bug fix a few things.. but in terms of where it is.. yeah it is obselete now as it was made for Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS and support ended April 30th 2021 and no more updates , security etc are being released by canocal. The other issue is with the programs out there now becoming more and more snap and snapd dependant rather than the apt we all use

R11 was bypassed. This was not released due to Biff's real life work commitments

We went direct to R12 beta instead.

Only a select few got invited to test the Beta as it was known to be quite buggy due to the controversial implementation of snap and snapd introduction by ubuntu and we ran into all kinds of fun and games with it lol as tried to work around all the issues

Let me have a chat with Biff to see if we can still provide the beta for play...

Hi Dodcel

The beta we have just finished testing of R12 was based on Ubuntu 21.04 with Kernal 5.11 and lightdm login with a few other bits thrown in.
If we release another beta .. it will most likely be 21.10

Hi Veggie

Yes initial beta testing has been completed.. We have put up a few teasers from our testing, of which i will link to shortly, including a couple short videos and a quick resource comparison of the beta using a high end and an older pc to confirm just what ram/cpu requirements it was using.

The link is here https://planetwatt.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1287.0

Hi Paolo

I have sent an email to Biff to ask him to send you a beta over. Once you get the beta, you will be put into a new tester member group and will have access to the tester board on this site. You can't see it currently as it is for testers only.
Basically once you start testing, we want feedback on this thread on thoughts, bugs, possible fixes etc etc

I will check in again in a few days. If you havent heard from Biff in the next few days.. let me know and I will send you a link direct to the beta

Beta Testing / Re: Beta Sign-ups

Hi Leenie. Thanks for posting your results in screens..
Good to get the comparison there between my modern high end and your lower end test rig..

My 416MB at idle.. i did get this down to 403.. but that was me bottomed out to your 384MB ..
cpu usage. my 0% to your 3% ..

I think we can safely call this another success for the low end pc spec market.. The only mull point though is there is ONLY 64Bit now... no 32bit flavour so this will limit the age of the pc's in use

Over to you then Biff

Hi guys!

SPOILER ALERTS!!!  ;D ;D

Just would like to share a more in-depth look at the beta behind the scenes... I will include a few bugs we found, which we will be fixing and getting out of the next beta just so you can see how honest we have been with our testing.

Please note i am using an ultra modern pc with win10 and running the beta via oracle virtualbox.. 1cpu core and 2gb ram thrown at it..  I'm currently running a Ryzen 7 3700X cpu which is an 8core/16 thread monster with each core at 4.2GHz with 32GB 3200MHz Ryzen tuned DDR4 ram on a Asus Rog Strix B550-F Gaming mobo which is pcie 4.0 throughout and a m.2 harddrive on the pcie 4.0 lane so my results may vary to that of an older pc, which i believe Leenie may be using on her testing. I expect the results to be about the same though.

Anyway.. the video is about 5mins long.. I apologies in advance if its boring and technical and sleep inducing  ;D ;D ;D but i know some of you folks like this stuff!

Here it is !

So.. I would just like to give a quick summary of initial thoughts on the first Beta

Not that many bugs to be honest... We have internally fixed alot of them straight from testing ready for the next release.. and have listed a few we couldn't ready for Biff to add to his list of cures :)

I have been very surprised at just how smooth the beta was.. I ran mine on a virtualbox and i think although i threw 2gb of spare ram on the box (bit unfair comparison here as i have 3200MHz dedicated Ryzen tuned DDR4 ram) .. i only needed a total of 403MB of ram at idle with nothing running so once again. I was also only using a single core of my cpu too... (bit unfair though to mention this as i have a Ryzen 7 3700X 8 core/16 thread running at 4.2GHZ/core so i cant really say how well it will do on a much lower powered cpu) .. Biff has delivered a well oiled, low requirement pc specced distro.

So.. with that said.. i think just a report from @Leenie is in order as she uses an older machine to my modern one to get a comparison for you folks and we will update the next steps when they occur!

In the mean time .. if you haven't already.. check out the screenshots (i have done a quick video from my demo) here! https://planetwatt.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1287.0
