This is an Ubuntu based distro. I tried it live, and it was nice. Not sure about an actual install on hardware though.

Ubuntu/Debian based...never tried it though.

Rosa Linux...not sure if it's Ubuntu or Debian based. They use their own PPAs. I tried the Lxqt version live, and it seemed nice. Their Rosa Image Burner is a great tool for people who aren't comfortable with the dd command.

The only Debian distro that I know that offers Lxqt is SparkyLinux...it uses Debian Testing.

Like you mentioned, I did install Lxqt on Debian before. I can't remember the details though. I do remember the font rendering was pretty bad, and my font configuration file didn't help for some reason...the Qt-ism I guess, but I'm not sure, and I didn't take the time to try and figure it out. Sorry.

Probably me being picky && pedantic.  ;D

One thing I've learned with Linux...

What works with one person...may not work with another! LOL!  :o

Well, when I upgrade R8 from Wheezy to Jessie, it went fine. Maybe I was just lucky? LOLOLOL!  ;D

Dan, are you still running R8? If yes, is it working out well for you? :)

No...that was just something I did for fun. I did use it until R10 came out though, and it worked great during that time.  :)

However, I see no reason why it wouldn't continue working after upgrading it from Wheezy to Jessie. If I remember correctly, Wheezy is supported until 2018, but it seems like I remember reading that part of the Wheezy updates ended in February of this year and were passed onto "somebody" else to maintain...so that required changing the sources.list to reflect that. Sorry, I know that's vague.  :P

If anyone wanted to try it, I think the proper way to upgrade from Wheezy to Jessie would be to do all of the Wheezy updates first...then do an apt-get dist-upgrade on Wheezy.

After that's finished, go to your sources.list and change every instance of "wheezy" to "jessie". Then do apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade.

Should work fine.  ;)

Thank you for the kind words and understanding berliner.

Again, I'm sorry for all of the trouble, but I'm glad you're able to use the computer again.  :)

berliner,

I'm so sorry. You have my utmost apology for what you've experienced. I can only imagine what frustration you're feeling.

I've learned a lesson from this; in that, I will no longer offer advice in an area in which I'm unsure. Please forgive me if what I suggested is the cause of your problems.

berliner, I know nothing about UEFI, so I can't really help...sorry. I do wonder though...

Biff said that if a user puts checkmarks on "Install updates" and "Install 3rd party software" during the installation, it can cause the installer to crash. The 3rd party software is already installed, and it's recommended to install updates after the installation.

So...just in case you have checked those two options, you might try it without putting the checkmarks on them.

This is just a wild guess on my part though.

Agreed! I love Openbox as well. In fact, some of the best customized desktops that I have seen use OB.  Exhibit A: http://i.imgur.com/BRCeMYc.jpg

Is that yours? Looks nice!

Thought I'd give the Openbox session a little attention. If people aren't aware, in wattOS LXDE, you can also choose the Openbox session at the login screen. Out of the box, it's pretty bare-bones though. Still, I love Openbox and enjoy customizing it.

From looking at their Launchpad page, they don't have it quite ready for Ubuntu 16.04 yet...says it's on a "pre-release freeze".

I know nothing about AcidRip, but there is a .deb package available for Ubuntu 14.04...whether it will work in 16.04, I don't know. All I can do is suggest trying to install it with the GDebi Package Installer and see how it goes...but it's up to you whether you want to try it or not.  ;)

Here's the link to the .deb package...looks like the same package works with 32bit and 64bit.
