I'm trying to get R10 working but both vlc and skype show as "broken" when chosen in synaptic. (the vlc and skype packages both show as red) I've tried updating the OS, changing repos, using a different USB creator but it doesn't change anything. Any thoughts would be great.
BTW, I have 4 OSs on this machine, so I booted to another, cleared the /var/cache/apt folder, then install vlc. I then grabbed the files out of the /var/cache/apt folder and tried to install in R10 with dpkg in terminal. That failed also without any helpful errors.
TIA

Hi DVOM.
Open your main menu, and go to Preferences > Software & Updates
When the Software & Updates window opens, click on the Updates tab.
Look to see if there's a checkmark next to Recommended updates (xenial-updates)
If there's not a checkmark there, put one there...and you should be able to install VLC. I would assume that will help with Skype also.

Thanks a lot Dan, that did the trick. At least on the Live USB. I'll install it again later this afternoon.
