Title: [SOLVED] Problem creating a live USB
Post by: HughMann on September 15, 2015, 04:40:44 PM
Hi folks, I need a bit of help.

I've been trying - and failing - to create a live USB stick using the 32 bit LXDE version. I've tried the latest version of Universal USB Installer, YUMI and manually via the terminal, but no computer I've tested it on will read the USB as bootable, simply ignoring it and booting the main drive. Oddly though, QEMU will see the drive as bootable.

Has anyone else had similar issues? Any advice as to how I can remedy this problem would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

During boot, have you made the computer choose to boot the usb instead of hd? Do you have the possibility to try with a cd?

Hi Blaze.

Yes, I have made sure the boot order is correct. I'm considering the CD route (if I can be bothered to go and buy some!) but I get the feeling I'll get the same results. I've even checked the MD5 to make sure there was no problems with the image, but that was fine.

It's frustrating, as wattOS R8 worked fine as a live USB, and, with me still being something of a Linux newbie, it's driving me a bit crazy as to what I might be doing wrong. I just want to give R9 a test run, damnit!

Do you have another usb to try with? since it has failed on several different computers. Oh and welcome to the forums by the way :)

Thanks for the welcome, and your help so far of course! :)

I haven't tried that yet, but it's worth a go.

Not much help I am afraid. How about to download the iso to another machine, and write it to usb there?

More helpful than you thought. Just tried another USB and it worked first time. Even weirder is the original stick has no obvious errors. Now I'm just feeling pretty stupid I hadn't tried that earlier!

Cheers  :)
