I'm gobsmacked! I downloaded the ISO image and created a bootable, live USB drive via unetbootin, only to then discover that it is for an X86_64 CPU. Does WattOS-R12 really not support 32-bit systems? Isn't that a major purpose of WattOS? Admittedly, I might/must have missed the notice, but surely there's room in the Release Notes to mention a system requirement such as this. Please advise.

As Emily Litella used to say, "Never mind." I read a post from May, 2021 in a related thread, and saw that a 64-bit system is a prerequisite for WattOS-R12. How 'bout dat. I previously ran WattOS-R2 on 32-bit hardware, so when I read that -R12 was based on Debian "Bullseye", I figured that -R12 would also support my 32-bit systems. Silly me. Of course, my ASUS 900A (32-bit) currently runs Debian "Bookworm", so my assumption about -R12 was not unfounded. I guess the old adage still holds true: "If it ain't broke, don't 'fix' it."

Good luck!

No definite timeline on a 32bit ISO. Was waiting to see what the demand looked like as most (not all) major OS's have moved on from 32bit. I understand the merits and hardware that needs it, but need to know how much demand before I put the labor into it and maintain it.

Hiya

I understand your comments and where you are coming from here with what you are saying.

From watt (pardon the os pun) i understand.. I do believe the OS is back as it was originally. we have a new discord server and the new distrowatch listing as you saw.
It was the covid outbreak that stopped the original timeline of wattOS due to the owner's real life commitments hospital related work. I got covid myself also and yeah.. you can see why things went stale.

We did a trial beta last year with selected invites to see what the current donor platforms were like with their older hardware compatability and we have been alpha testing the new R12 for a while, before we went public to announce open public beta testing.

Once the public testing was over, we then released the R12 which is based on Debian 11, and the new discord server.

We have been busy already over there with demand on downloads and support and bits..

So i hope that has answered some of your questions. Obviously i am only a site mod here.. but Leenie and Myself have been with this project now for what.. gah.. 8 years for me.. 11 or so for Leenie.. and we have kept the push going :)

Now.. R12 atm is a hybrid uefi/bios iso in a 64bit flavour.. Biff is mulling over 32bit if there is enough request for it.. so yeah.. there we have it.

If you are happy to join us over on the discord.. Biff is alot more active there as things have taken off like wildfire as you can imagine, we'll be able to provide more info in almost live time.

News and Announcements / Update for the community 26-10-22

Hi Folks

I know things have been quiet here on the forum but I would just like to update on what has been going on behind the scenes

As some of you know,. we did a limited "FEELER" iso last year which we invited a few select members to trial and just give some initial thoughts on.. And we posted some initial thoughts, screenshots and a video or 2 about it :)

We ran the test into early this year with Leenie, Biff and myself comparing the results and looking at how the various linux flavours and the kernels are currently supporting older hardware in general and essentially... we are still here.. still working in the background and this group is still active.

If you have any questions for us.. please do ask and we would just like to apologise for the quiet status of late but with our real life jobs, and current events.. we have had our hands full.. !!
