wattOS Talk / Is it ok to purge screensaver
« on: January 09, 2018, 05:03:46 PM »
Question. If a person never uses the screensaver in WattOS - is it okay to purge it from WattOS?

I see Xarchiver included in the WattOS install. Just a suggestion... I found File-Roller more capable and not really much bigger in memory and hard drive usage.

wattOS R9 / Tech questions - Backups, SD cards, google drive and encyption
« on: September 18, 2015, 01:35:00 PM »
Would anyone know of Ubuntu based backup software that works with SD cards? I heard about Deja Dup, SBackup and Back-In-Time but do not know how well (easy) they would work with SD cards. I do not need much... just like to backup my documents and pictures (photos). Anything more than that would be gravy but can do without.

Has anyone managed to get Google Drive (Grive and/or Grive tools) to work on R9 LXDE i386? I have trouble just getting it installed.

Last... with GNUPG already pre-installed, what are people thoughts about VeraCrypt/TrueCrypt? Is it advised when the computer is just for home use? Or is GNUPG seen as good enough?   :-\

wattOS R9 / Ubuntu Tweak and R9 Microwatt - UPDATE 6/19/2015
« on: June 16, 2015, 09:39:29 PM »
Has anyone got Ubuntu Tweak and Janitor to work? Usually Janitor asks for a password to finish cleaning but it appears to just do nothing.    :(

Maybe it is some dependiences but I found Ubuntu Tweak works GREAT in R9 LXDE version! R9 also boots faster than Lubuntu!

I do have a new question... what is with "Disable IRQ 18" each time R9 LXDE boot up??

wattOS Talk / Question about upgrades, desktops and other stuff
« on: January 16, 2015, 09:24:56 PM »
I am trying to understand all the stuff on the forums and sorry to say... I still am a tad fuzzy about some things.

I am using a HP G60-535DX and Ubuntu 13.10 an a Acer Aspire One D250 with Windum XP (yuck),

First... if running WattOS R8 LDXE 64 bit on the Acer... and want to upgrade to WattOS R9 LDXE 64 bit - will I need to backup my data and do a clean install or is there a upgrade option?

Second... speaking of upgrades. With Ubuntu, if I want to install the latest stuff (example Evolution mail client or SeaMonkey) - I have to eventually upgrade Ubuntu because of something called dependencies. I seem unable to install apps for Uptoic on version 13. Since WattOS R8 and R9 are Debain based... can I use deb files/apps listed at "testing" instead of stable?

Third... Hearing the LDXE desktop is being phased out for something called LQxt/LxQt (or whatever) - will WattOS R9 64 bit be using LQxt desktop instead of LXDE desktop?

Fourth... if WattOS R9 is staying with with LXDE - would it hurt anything to install the LXDE metapackage with all its extras? If going to LQxt - would it hurt to install its metapackage with all the extras.

wattOS Talk / Where to find more themes for Openbox / LXDE
« on: November 12, 2014, 08:44:33 PM »
Does anyone know of websites (other than for themes to download? I am especially looking for something Medieval like Castles... maybe anything Norse/Vikings. The other theme I would love is something Star Trek related.

wattOS R8 / What apps are already included in R8 LXDE
« on: October 24, 2014, 10:31:17 PM »
I use Zorin 8 (Ubuntu 13.10 64bit) - but fed up with Ubuntu error messages and memory hunger. I plan to move to WattOS R8 64 bit but want to know what apps are already there... so I know what apps I can leave off and what apps I need to re-install after moving to WattOS?

Introductions / Moving to WattOS R8 LXDE 64bit
« on: October 24, 2014, 10:14:41 PM »
Hello! I am here in Indiana/USA. I'm new to WattOS. I have a HP G60-535DX laptop and Acer Aspire One D250 netbook. I use Zorin 8 (Ubuntu 13.10 64bit) - but fed up with Ubuntu error messages and memory hunger. I am backing up everything and plan a clean install with WattOS R8 LXDE 64bit... now that it's based on Debian - it is said to be more stable than when it was based on Ubuntu.

I love a OS being light on CPU and RAM usage... leaving more leftover for use by big apps like LibreOffice or GIMP!

My concern however... is I heard that Debian can be "fussy" or "less forgiving" working some hardware like WiFi adapters or network cards. It makes me a tad worried about installing WattOS R8 on the Acer!

Any tips, ideas, suggestions - etc. - please?!
