wattOS R9 / Development hint
« on: November 20, 2015, 01:42:24 AM »
Hello, I did it to this forum after a long absence. ;)

I want to share development information:

- Bodhi Linux 3 "Legacy" adopted non-PAE kernel and maintained it to be usable in much environment.
This kernel may be applicable to wattOS, and will save many PCs.

- When wattOS R9 installs it any place other than English, it crashes.
  This problem occurs now:
  http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1182784
Evasion of this problem is to install wattOS R9 in English.

In addition, this was not reflected in wattOS R9. Very disappointed... :'(

wattOS R8 / Re: How to install OpenOffice?
« on: January 14, 2015, 08:47:56 AM »
My post seems to have been interpreted by mistake by everybody. I am sorry...  :-\

I did post in this way:
Quote
If it was "OpenOffice.org" to have used conventionally, it is old application.
I specify it with "OpenOffice.org" here and please be careful about "Apache OpenOffice" not being had by it.
(So, I specify it with "OpenOffice.org" and not "OpenOffice")
I feel the possibility that teedee demands use of "OpenOffice.org" (not "Apache OpenOffice") to the last and do it in such a sentence.

It is right in just what everybody is listed that Apache OpenOffice is maintained now.
I am sorry that it produces misunderstanding.

I link pages of Wikipedia just to make sure:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenOffice.org (OOo)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_OpenOffice (AOO)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LibreOffice (LO)

I add a postscript for sense...

If it was "OpenOffice.org" to have used conventionally, it is old application.
Most of Linux distribution choose "LibreOffice" as this succession now.
We can easily install LibreOffice from Synaptic and apt. The package name is libreoffice:

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install libreoffice

@James McCoy
At first, please confirm whether the package is offered in Debian GNU/Linux.
Many packages will be offered in Debian.
  • wattOS R8: Debian wheezy
  • wattOS R9: Debian jessie

Ubuntu MATE is not Ubuntu formula flavor now, but the reaction is good:

https://ubuntu-mate.org/

There is a person evaluating MATE desktop succeeding GNOME 2.
Ubuntu MATE is conscious of Ubuntu of the GNOME 2 era.
Therefore this does not greatly mind ISO size. Current ISO size is quite 1G byte.

The person concerned leads and pushes forward MX-14(MX Linux) than antiX.
wheezy-based MX-14.3 was just released:

http://antix.mepis.org/
http://www.mepiscommunity.org/mx/

A package of MX Linux is behind with the development of current antiX and is reflected.
The person concerned will make jessie base in MX-15.
but the topic has not yet occurred now.

There is not the movement that is new in Debian-based distribution for the moment.

Lubuntu has begun to exclude some languages to maintain CD size.
A limit of the CD size seems to come over.

Release of jessie approaches about Debian.
This was "testing" until recently.

https://wiki.debian.org/DebianJessie

Please be careful about wattOS R9 acting as above.
This influences Debian base Linux distribution.
(CrunchBang is included in this)

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: wattOS R9 Suggestions

I participate in IRC and want to suggest wattOS R9.
but as for me who live in Japan, the timing is not correct.
and I cannot decode English in real time.
Therefore I have a demand to wattOS R9 here.

The big demand from me is one.
It is to include the unicode font of Asia language in wattOS ISO,
and this font is installed.

I wanted this to realize in wattOS R8.
When the Japanese users installs wattOS R8 LXDE and Microwatt,
the user watches abnormal output there.

Asia users is necessary for exclusive input method,
but it increases size of the ISO very much.
I do not hope for it in wattOS, The users can easily install it in Synaptic or apt.

wattOS R8 / Re: What is a difference between XTerm, UXTerm and LXTerminal?
« on: November 20, 2014, 11:27:40 AM »
The difference as follows:
  • XTerm: terminal emulator for the X Window System (since 1996)
  • UXTerm: Xterm corresponding to Unicode
  • LXTerminal: terminal emulator for the LXDE (since 2008)
LXTerminal is many functions. (example: menubar)
I use LXTerminal willingly. ;)

"LXTerminal" is application included in the LXDE version,
"MATE terminal" is included in MATE version instead,
and "urxvt" is included in Microwatt instead.

wattOS R8 / Re: Google Analytics don't render correctly on Iceweasel
« on: October 29, 2014, 01:04:03 PM »
I tried the browse of Google Analytics in Iceweasel of wattOS R8 LXDE. A result was normal.
Probably the add-on that teedee add will be the cause of the problem.

wattOS R8 / Re: How do I do screenshot?
« on: October 27, 2014, 10:44:15 AM »
The MATE version supports screenshot by Print Screen.
screenshot software is necessary for LXDE and Microwatt.
Because mtPaint has screenshot function, I use this.

« on: October 24, 2014, 12:09:58 PM »
I understood the problem that cuscotravelservices spoke.
And I reply it when this "not problem".

This is in this condition with Debian wheezy package,
It is displayed in Debian and other distributions.
It is necessary to refer to project of Synatpic or Debian if you want to improve this.

wattOS R8 / Re: Installing Opera
« on: October 24, 2014, 11:56:30 AM »
I tried installation of Opera in wattOS R8 LXDE. It was possible for result normalcy.

teedee tried downloading is a page for Opera 64bit version:
http://www.opera.com/download/guide/?os=linux

Please download it from this  if wattOS using is for Opera 32 bit version:
http://www.opera.com/download/guide/?os=linux-i386&list=all

In addition, Microwatt is included in a 32 bit version, too.
