If I didn't know anything about wattOS previously, I'd want to use it just for that login screen!

Hi all - thanks for the patience. The ISO's will be uploaded tonight - it will be late, but it will get done tonight..... Just finishing up microwatt.... both 32 and 64bit LXDE are done and ready. Will post the details of programs, etc. in the next couple hours. Just trying now to "slim-up" the Microwatt footprint. I have included the broadcom and DKMS (dynamic kernel module support) which take up a good bit of extra space, but improves compatibility for broadcom chipset wireless systems (lot of older Dell and others use broadcom a lot) and wireless out of the box is important to me. So I am sacrificing ISO size slightly for hardware compatibility. Have also tested successfully the 32bit on a non-pae CPU (my 13 year old Dell D500) and it works with the "forcepae" option. I will outline that in the wiki, etc. for those who are trying to use that.

last "informal" update then the real stuff comes out. Here is the plan. I am going to delay microwatt for now (week or two - maybe less) so I can finish getting the kinks worked out. The installer is having some issues with it and I don't want to release a 50/50 reliable install - which is what Microwatt is right now.

BUT - I see no reason to delay the release of the LXDE 32 and 64bit - So I am going to announce that and update the site, send to distrowatch, etc. in the next 2 hours (how long it takes to upload the ISO's, start seeding torrent, update the website, send the required details to distrowatch - package lists, etc).

So thats next - working now :)

Of course it's totally up to you and/or the other developer powers-that-be, but BunsenLabs Linux https://www.bunsenlabs.org/ (https://www.bunsenlabs.org/) (based on Debian Jessie instead of Ubuntu 16.x) has already worked out its popular Openbox equivalent to Microwatt.
Just sayin......

Hi G. Welcome to wattOS.

Unless biff has made a change, microwatt is an i3 distro...not Openbox. So there is a difference.

I'm very familiar with BunsenLabs. They put out a fantastic distro, and their forum is top-notch. They're not only willing to help people with their own distro, but they're glad and more-than-willing to help people from others...whether it's based on Debian, Arch, Ubuntu, etc. I could be wrong, but I don't think they'd appreciate their name and/or distro being used to try and put down another distro or developer.

Yep, checked out https://i3wm.org/screenshots/ (https://i3wm.org/screenshots/) to get a feel for this WM.
My own impression from this is that Emacs https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/ (https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/) can more readily provide most of the features of i3 I would really need, separate from a full-blown WM.

As WattOS doesn't seem to suit my own needs as proclaimed for "bringing old computers back to life" (source: http://planetwatt.com/new/index.php/2016/09/01/wattos-r10-released/ (http://planetwatt.com/new/index.php/2016/09/01/wattos-r10-released/), I think I'd rather go with several of these other lightweight distros listed here instead, thanks.
Of course YMMV.

Okay. I understand. We all have different tastes, expectations, and ideas as to which OS will meet our particular needs and/or wants. That's one of the wonderful benefits of Linux; we can pretty much find an OS that appeals to us and meets our needs.

Good luck in your search.

@Dan
Perhaps Biff has made a significant change, as you mooted ..... this text from the FAQ :
The current wattOS build is based upon i3 window manager and LXDE to provide a friendly but fast user interface .........................

No mention of Openbox, even for the mainstream LXDE edition.

Hi all----thanks for working together to figure out the few "niggling" things that have occured with R10. As suggested by some I will probably add a blog entry on the main page about the USB mouse/keyboard issue even though its not a universal issue (I used three USB mice and keyboards and none of them exhibited the problems until I switched to a MS mouse). But I have no problem doing that, and if it helps the community, then I am all for it. So I will try to roll up the "known" issues into one entry I think....look for that this weekend.

I will also post a Microwatt update over the weekend. Anticipate its release in the next week.

tks,
biff

Hi folks....quick note for those who might not look. There is a new blog post that updates the "known bugs" posting and links back here to the forums, and a small Microwatt update.

http://planetwatt.com/new/index.php/2016/09/12/wattos-r10-known-bugs-and-issues-update/ (http://planetwatt.com/new/index.php/2016/09/12/wattos-r10-known-bugs-and-issues-update/)

Bottomline on Microwatt is that there will be a release of that sometime in this coming week. (between the 12th and the 19th) :) - have a great day...

Only 4 more days! YAY.

Thank you, biffster.

I have moved my main desktop over to WattOS and the speed is unreal. so FAST. i3 6100, 8gb ddr4, 120gb ssd. this system with WattOS is like a match made in heaven!
I also use it on my older desktop and very old 1gb desktop. really looking forward to Microwatt so I can unleash it on my 1gb system.

Thanks again, bro. the work you're doing is amazing!

Keep rocking.

Bob.
