Wattos R6 on older hardware

There should be a thread regarding the troubles with older hardware, since wattOS is suitable for recycling older computers. Here my experience:

I installed wattOS R6 on a Pentium III at 800MHz, with 256MB of RAM. The following tweaks are necessary:

1.) An indexing-process by apt (apt-xapian) bogs down the system, leaving it almost unusable. This makes the installation and the use of the installed system painfully slow. After installation, I removed the package "apt-xapian-index", without apparent problems. See here for a discussion:

It seems to be an issue with older hardware only.

2.) Due to the older CPU, newer versions of adobe-flash don't work. There is a thread somewhere in this forum regarding this issue. I had to downgrade to flash 10.2, following the instructions here.

3.) I strongly recommend to use Qupzilla ( instead of Chromium to browse the web. Ad-blocking is included, and it is slicker (on my old system), without loss of functionality. Repositories are not included, so you have to do this:

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nowrep/qupzilla

    sudo apt-get update

    sudo apt-get install qupzilla

Thanks Erwin....There is a version of wattOS R7 coming out that is more minimalist called microwatt. It has incorporated qupzilla and some of the things you mentioned. Look for it in the next couple days.
